Why does Amethyst connect me to like 500+ relays? Anyway to cut this down to a reasonable number? I filled in what I thought was appropriate in the relays settings and also added "proxy relays" thinking that would fix. But no such luck there - still connecting to crazy amounts of relays and everything works super slow all the time now.

It fetches posts from the relays your contacts are posting to instead of just a random set you enter, its called the gossip protocol, ensures decentralization
Got it. Any recommendations to speed things up? Used to work much faster for me before? Also, I notice on Amethys half my notes are missing but on other clients I can see much more further back in time
Not sure really, it works decent for me, but I also use pollerama.fun and other clients so maybe I dont see it too often, maybe try to see if you're fetching stuff from tor? That slows things down as well.
I'm having the same problem. I considered just blocking a slew of the ones that are getting queried but it would take ages to go through the hundred I don't want. Amethyst is pretty amazing, but right now it's very slow ro update feeds.
It's actually been working much better for me since the gossip model switched. It's still slow, but the only client I know which is faster in primal and that's not much faster in my experience
