Man, I might get the flu shot next year. Or the year after (does the immunity from this year carry on into next year possibly? 🤔). I haven't gotten one the last few years. Not really out of any prinicpled decision. Just kind of like "do I really need that thing" and "how honest were you guys really about the covid shot" and I never went to the doctor in the fall where they would be like "hey do you want this thing?"

But my wife and I have the flu right now and we are 5-6 days of being varying degrees of miserable. Fevers, chills, aches, congestion, and now coughs. Each day waking up thinking it will turn and it's still there. Finally today we don't have fevers, which is an improvement. But all the other stuff is still strong. Ugh.

Would the flu shot have helped this year? I don't know. It would've been cool if one of us had gotten it and the other hadn't so we could compare. But that's not really an experiment to set out to run.

Anyway. I'm gonna take some Sudafed and try to write some lesson plans before my son wakes up. Have a great weekend friends. And don't come in contact with me. lol

Oh boy, sorry to hear that. Take care of yourselves and get well soon.

Oh, and btw, a friend took the flu shot recently and she was out for about 6 days.

So, for some or sometimes, in order not to get the flu possibly by taking the shot, one might get sick with it, which is exactly what one tries to experience.

Yeah, I’ve heard of that happening. I used to get it most years, when I remembered, and never experienced that or any side effects but maybe I just got lucky.

I wouldn't bother with the shots. You could try high dose Vitamin D (5000 iu) and vit C (3-6000mg) per day. Look into mullien tea for the cough. Look up Barbara O'Neill for the onion remedies on YouTube. I'm in my 50s and I've never bothered with the flu jabs. Everyone at my Hubby's work would be fine until they came round with the free flu shots in autumn, then they'd all start dropping with the flu literally straight after. We thought that was strange so we never took them ourselves and we've been fine. We had flu in 2012 and we think covid in 2023, which was pretty rough, but we survived. Both times we were low on vit D and were not eating as well as we could.

If you can source organic lemons, a real honey and lemon hot drink is amazing. If you don't have a sore throat, you can put a couple of slices of ginger in too (yum) 🍋🍯🐝🫚

P.S. hope you feel better soon!

Thanks! I’m probably the healthiest I’ve ever been in terms of physically fitness and diet. I’ve been taking 6000 IU vitamin D for the last month and 4000 before that back to probably October. Although, I am going to get my levels checked because I have been low in the past. I thought I was physically prepared for this crap. Lol.

I probably won’t get the shot because they’re not terribly effective anyway, I suspect now I’ll have some lingering general purpose immunity for at least a year, and they seem to get less effective the more you take them. And after the Covid vaccines I don’t even know what “effective” means anymore.

It's rough when it hits you unexpectedly like that. We were travelling last year when we think we got covid. We had to just stay in one place. We were at this gorgeous resort in Spain but we couldnt leave the apartment, we were really crook 🥴🙈 We hadn't had so much as a sniffle in years. It was a shocker, completely floored us. Agree about the effectiveness. Most ppl we know who took them had it about 2 or 3 times. Some were very sick as well, not just from catching covid later but straight after taking the jabs.

Take care

I did an in-depth study on the safety and effectiveness of vaccines in 2019. Here's the summary video:

In 2018-19 the Flu Vaccine was 29% effective for the strains it targeted, and only 14% effective for people above the age of 50. It was only 9% effective against the most common strain during this period of time.
