Did your thoughts in regards to gaming that costly signal change in the last couple of days/weeks? I remember you having some concerns, as some people have a lot of money and some don't. Still a concern or did hands-on zap experience change that?

Never had concerns I’m aware of! I’ve always hated like. Originally for Twitter it was favorite, and used more as a bookmark.

Def can be gamed, but if you can turn off algo or choose/make one…all good.

That's an excellent point. Thanks for answering!

When you post so many smart messages, it draws my attention, I keep thinking and getting turned on, idk what’s wrong with me lol @jack

Bookmarks on Nostr would be nice.

Curious about this, as while I have been having a lot of fun with zaps, I have some niggles about that very question.. surely they can be gamed intentionally, and/or simply skewed by relative wealth and ability to zap more often/higher amounts..

and also do zaps reflect any truer 'value' of a post than 'likes', in that humans like leaders and popular ppl and might zap content to be 'seen' by a those ppl or by others etc

Also, depending on the relays connected and the time of day/night in places with more internet service, some posts will be seen far more than others leading to them statistically getting more zaps..

Haven't dived far down with these thoughts, just been noticing them bubbling up the past few days..

Can't help but wonder how it would work/feel to hide like count/zap count/zap amount .. I guess we did have that for the first few days in December before the real migration started, and I remember liking it, though def felt odd after being programmed for so long to look at Like count to 'validate' a tweets 'value' or at least evaluate the amount of 'interest' in it..

Love to hear others' thoughts on all this 💜

I am finding that I still have a place for likes. For me:

Reposts are for content that I think other people will find interesting. I also use it to expose other people to people who I follow and who I believe create content of value.

Zaps are for people who are creating content that makes me laugh, think, or inspire me. This could be anything.

Likes are for a picture of a good steak or someone enjoying time with their kids, or maybe a landscape photo, etc.

They all have value.

I’m also very careful with reposts because they bog down people’s feeds.

this is what i love about nostr - I think I have asked countless times many things directly to Jack and they got lost in the Twitterverse - now little old me has jack following me and i have been able to converse. Much signal, low noise, gotta love nostr!

#[2] yeah likes were always the cheap way of showing appreciation.

What WOULD be nice if zaps worked as the telegram bot did (lnTxBot (now retired) - meaning that you could zap a user who has no idea what lightning is and that those sats would be held for him until he registered a lightning address - hopefully the user wouldn't even see all of this, all he needs to know is "sats have been sent your way, click here to get them"
