There is no algorithm, so you have to put in a little bit of work into curating your feed. And unfortunately, search is a little bit dismal, but besides all of that...
Curating your relays is kind of important. You don't want to have too many relays that are disconnecting all the time. It can cause slow load times, which can be frustrating when you're just trying to scroll for a little bit.
Paid relays can cut down on spam.

That’s probably all you need for now.
Damus is great. I also like the app Nostur, as it has some features Damus doesn’t. You login with the same account on any Nostr app and it will pull your contacts/profile/posts from the connected relays. My only recommendation is if you try other apps use a test account before using your main account’s private key, just in case. You can also login to some apps with just your npub and use it in a view-only mode if you don’t want to use your private key.
