I only have one account, and hope to keep it forever

Jack, you should join the plebs and register jack@nostrplebs.com. NIP-05 ID is important and can prevent things like this. No one has it yet on NostrPlebs. Though, probably me mentioning this will make someone buy it. Better act fast!

A DM prolly would of worked ๐Ÿ˜‚

Good point.

i will buy it for Jack w his pub key so no one can take

Here is his pub (feel free to verify)

npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m

Username: jack@nostrplebs.com

Send invoice whenever

Why are people reserving other peopleโ€™s methods of verification?

Iโ€™m not, Iโ€™m just paying for jacks verification for him before someone else claims the username. Only the private key associated with his public key will be able to claim it on nostr.

Can there be other โ€œjack@[?].[?]โ€verification domains?

Sure but we already know jacks pubkey, so once he associates his pubkey with a nip identifier we will know which domain the real one is

how do we already know jackโ€™s pubkey?

He tweeted it and itโ€™s the one we all follow on here with like 2k followers

so why not just do that?

Because Nips are easier to read than a string of random characters & adds a little verified-type checkmark next to your name (only on certain clients rn). So easier to verify itโ€™s the real person when scrolling through the feed

just do last 4 digits

That requires clicking on the account every time to go check the key on their page. The nip identifier *ideally* appears as the name or by the name on othersโ€™ feeds

ok, instead of seeing โ€œpatโ€, I see pat@real.person โœ…

but canโ€™t there also be pat@alsoreal.personโœ…

Yes

there are many real jackโ€™s in the world tho

there will be other jackโ€™s with a verified-type checkmark next to their name, right?

Iโ€™m assuming you are using Damus, otherwise You would see my identifier as an example. It appears in every post for everyone else, but hasnโ€™t been implemented into Damus yet.

yep, flying blind over here apparently

right here
