I notice a lot of people can't focus.

We could see the Northern Lights a couple of weeks ago, extremely rare in the south of England. I was outside photographing it. I knocked on my neighbours door to let him know.

He joined me, but was chatting about random gossip he'd heard the other day. I ended up asking him to either focus or go back inside. He apologised.

Today, we have Internet connectivity issues with our ISP, I am attempting to co-ordinate information between our neighbours on WhatsApp. He is again rattling off irrelevant gossip, not at all interested in the issue, while moaning that he can't watch YouTube on his TV.

There's time for gossip and shitposting and there's time for focus.

That and Blazing Saddles are the two best things ever created.

I've noticed it over the past few years too, I had a rant sometime last year about it. I have some friends that will just pull their phone out and scroll whatever or watch a youtube video if conversation get's too quiet or boring, or something they don't feel like talking about. It's wild. Like what are we even hanging out for.

IRL does seem to take a back seat to the Internet more than it should.

When I travel to London by train, which I do about once a month. I still look out the carriage window most of the time, observing the outside world.

Same on planes.

That's awesome, I always have always will! I'm even psycho enough to drive in silence (I like the sound of the engine). The game changer was getting rid of a smartphone. Then the only access to the internet you have is when you intentionally sit down at your computer. Anything else vanishes. Not all are fortunate enough to do it, but I think most could if they tried hard enough. I guess unless you work long labor hours, even then I still stat down at my computer for a few minutes before going to bed.

I even used to listen to music when I worked, but I even stopped that and learned to work with the silence. Another game changer imo.

It's just the self control portion, don't even need to remove the smartphone, but it helps. Technically mine's still android but it's so stripped down it's basically a dumb phone with poorly working gps and Signal.

I also drive in slience, except I have an electric car, so it's even quieter πŸ˜‚

I have a smart phone, but I don't have an addictive personality (the opposite actually), so it's really easy to not use it if I'm not using it.

XD

I don't either so I guess it's easy for me to say too!

Maybe that’s the difference πŸ€”

Could be :/

I hope he's not on nostr

He's not even on WhatsApp, we have a neighbours WhatsApp, but I have to text him separately πŸ˜‚

We'll all arrive at that stage one day.

Not me, at the peak of this bull run, I'm getting cryogenically frozen πŸ˜‚
