I remember reading an account from a woman in the early 1900’s where she described how her dreams changed after she encountered movies and television for the first time.

I think about that a lot.

The types of dreams that humans had throughout all of history are now inaccessible to us in modernity.

Mindblown 🤯

As a child I used to dream vividly of the rainforest. As a teenager I thought this meant I was in touch with nature. As an adult I know this means my parents let me watch Fern Gully.

I wouldn’t say inaccessible but less recurrent. Dreams are also a representation of our very selfs and our ancestors.

I think is one of the things that are really magical and they go way beyond what we know through our current methods of understanding.

GM man 🫂

Why?

No joke. I was haveing a sexy dream about my wife this morning and woke up licking my lips 😋 hahaha

i’m not sure I agree.

Think about reading a sci-fi book before seeing pics or art of the people and spaceships.

once seen, those images somehow retroactively become what you’ve always seen.

not so, if u never look at them.

I think we’re saying the same thing

ok maybe …. but i was TRYING to disagree with you

🤣

On the flip side, movies make the dreams of others more accessible to us

I somewhat disagree..

We're all experiencing this thing called the human condition, and whilst the symbols within dreams may change their meaning from culture to culture, with the passing of time, or even with specific new experiences from person to person, *thematically* we all share the same dreams

🤙🏼

Is this account still available? sounds like an interesting read

I’m not sure where to find it

You just made me want to kill my telev

That's interesting. We limited our kids viewing of TV after seeing a huge behavioural change after exposure to what we thought was benign programming.

You know that we all have different abilities when it comes to our inner vision?

If I asked you to imagine yourself sitting on a deserted beach, you might literally see your feet pushing into the sand with the waves lapping in the background. Your mind may insert details like a specific beach towel or drink. Or you may just accept the concept intellectually & see nothing specific at all. You may be able to describe a scene without "seeing" anything in your internal sight.

I'm wondering how big a role TV plays in dulling this internal sight.
