So Frens and Plebs,

I've orange-pilled some friends and they are moving some significant savings to bitcoin. They also want to begin using bitcoin for daily spending, and would like to set up a lighting wallet. Here I am, supposedly the "expert" helping them, and I really don't have any good recommendations for them because I haven't used lightning very much at all...

I have used Wallet of Satoshi for a while for modest amounts of BTC, which was great; but that's no longer an option for them. I like Minibits, because it seems to work well for both Cashu and Lightning, but I don't know of a good way to fund the wallet with lightning SATs...

I am beginning to learn about setting up a lightning node, which I fully intend to do on my Start One server running Start9... however, I find the whole lightning setup thing rather intimidating...

Bottom Line Question:

Any suggestions for simply funding a Minibits wallet with a modest amount of bitcoin for a reasonable fee? Say, around 200k sats?

Thanks in advance for any "Quick and Dirty" suggestions, as I'm going to visit my friends in a couple of hours...

It can be if you over-complicate it. I've found having fewer but larger channels makes things WAY easier. As long as you know your general habits (if you expect to receive or send more often) then you're all set and can act accordingly.

Today Alby Hub 1.7.2 was released which includes a new Friends & Family app for quickly onboarding (you guessed it) your friends and family to bitcoin and lightning, powered by your hub's liquidity. They get a wallet without having to understand lightning or have their own channels, and not rely on large custodial services. They can get their own lightning address with an Alby Account, or connect their new wallet to the Alby extension, or very soon connect to Alby's new mobile app, Alby Go.

I'm left with the edges to finish with a few layers of black edge paint. I kept the corners 90° this time instead of my usual round corners. Hopefully he won't be mad about it 😬
