I’m unreligious btw

No beliefs or rituals?
Nah
How does one exist without any beliefs and rituals (patterned behaviour)?
I believe things and have habits. If you’re calling that religious, i don’t get it but that’s cool. I just mean i don’t take the Bible or the Torah or the Quran etc as some kind of documentation of objective or holy truth, rather as books written long ago by flawed meatbags like ourselves that managed to brainwash enough people to still be popular today 😅
Lol
Have you read them?
I’ve read the bible and went to church growing up, not so much with the others. I just believe it was all made up to control the masses which in some ways is good. I do wonder if there has been net negative violence overall throughout history compared to a world where everyone just thinks for themselves. A lot of death and destruction has come out of religious factions and crusades - but at least they tend to teach the peasants to respect each other, so that’s good
To be clear this note was not meant to be an invitation to be Jesus pilled or anything. I’m perfectly happy in my worldview that we are animals and life is what we make of it. If it turns out one branch of Christianity was ✨The Truth✨ and i face God when i die, i believe he would accept my blasphemous retardation for having lived decently and respected his marvelous creation throughout my life. That, or i burn in hell for eternity with everyone in the other branches and religions, the gays (apparently), atheists, etc. Sounds like a party though
I’ll respond to this before writing other responses. To me these ideas can be discussed without the thought of converting someone at all. I am not a baptized Christian and I’m not trying to push someone into the river either. Just using nostr as a forum for free communication and your note caught my eye.
Try reading or listening to Ayn Rand, may resonate.
Religions provide tried and tested guidelines on how to live a good life, so they are philosophical in nature.
A critical mind will seek reason behind their various guidelines or ‘commandments’ based on reality. That is where they cross with Aristotelian based philosophy - fast forward to Ayn Rand and Objectivism.
I do think that no person exists without a belief system. Some value or thing is bound to be the most important to a person over all the others. There is no way around ritual (patterned behavior) and decisions are made according to one’s belief system. That is why “I’m unreligious” to me doesn’t really compute unless by “religion” one means only religions which have a written text and or state themselves to be a religion. Usually what people mean when they say they do not have a religion is, that they don’t know the name or have a name for their belief system, although it includes rituals and shares beliefs with large numbers of other people.
What does that mean?
I don’t subscribe to a religion or very old book
You’re sure?
I think so? Are you about to tell my how everything in modern western culture is shaped by judeo-christian values and whether i like it or not i conform to that system to some degree? Bc that is probably the case, but i don’t identify as a member of any Religion™️
No, I wasn’t, but now that you bring it up……..😜
but there are many things in “western culture” that has been shaped by values outside of the judeo-Christian world.
