Only what people who have the ability to take action in this world take from it, and what that leads to.
Taking the post-hoc rationalization of a politician at face value is hardly fair.
I personally think there's a lot we could gain from realizing that we are all ruled by the least among us. And that they don't represent our values. No matter how many other people have been tricked into thinking they do.

Not a Catholic, but hard agree. The writings of the early church (Ante-Nicene) supports this understanding of the Scripture. I say Ante nicene because those are the writings that I have read though I imagine later writings support it as well.
