Cancel culture is my least favorite aspect of modern society.
Discussion
Essentially it's the same thing as the mute/block button.
Cancel culture, is just a group of people, that usually targets dumb shit instead of things that matter.
Mute button is the "healthy" form of cancel culture...
But of course what we think of cancel culture extends further... Campaigns to get someone fired from their job, or now in 2025 deported, etc...
It's still pretty subjective IMHO. What one person might view as an act of "cancellation" could be seen by someone else as a public service, i.e. "everyone should know that this person in a position of authority holds this view."
Yall have a different definition than me. Mute is a boundary an individual makes. Canceling is a more public shaming or ganging up on.
OK now unblock everyone in your mute list 😂
You think muting is the same thing as canceling?
So I should unblock the porn spam that just burned my eyes? Muting is avoiding not cancelling. If you wouldn't suffer through it in real life, why suffer through it online? Now me telling everyone to block/mute/unfollow some npub is a bit different and I'd consider that cancel culture 🤷♀️...
It's a joke about scale. If I give a chip to you, I'd have to give a chip to everyone else.
Nah, you give the chip to the person you care about and everyone else can get their own chips lol. The problem happens when the person thinks they deserve your chip.
People have forgotten that we don't all have to be friends and it's okay to not like someone or to be not liked. This is a conversation I had to have with a personal friend. You're not a bad person because you don't like someone, but if you try to convince other people to not like someone based on your personal feelings it's a horse of a different color...a bad person maybe not...🤷♀️
I will just put this here and quietly walk away
