The sad part is that while Biden commuted the sentences of 2500 people convicted of drug crimes, he never once considered letting Ross Ulbricht go free. He also could have chosen to release them from prison right after taking office in 2021, instead of allowing them to lose precious years away from their families and homes. Not only are laws against drugs possession and sales too harsh, they’re morally wrong, and they are the tragic cause of so many young mens’ futures being stolen, mostly those from low-income and minority communities.

Ross Ulbricht idealistically believed that if people could simply conduct these types of transactions online instead of in person, they would be more safe and more free. For that, and for being the first to do it, he paid with what would have been the rest of his life, until today.

Ironically, the Democrats had many opportunities to right this wrong over the past 12 years, but because of hubris, or allegiance to the misguided relics within their party, refused to do so.

They could have owned this issue and freed not only Ross, but thousands of other nonviolent convicts as well.

Trump could have freed Ross from between 2017 and 2021 . 🤷🏼

I didn't know about Ross till bitcoiners told me about him.

I did, but only because it was the national news about Silk Road being busted that led me to understand what bitcoin was.

I shopped on SR multiple times. It was a convenient way to obtain some of the more rare substances that weren't readily available in person. I was surprised that nothing really comparable sprung up in its place. There were a few different wannabes, but none with the reliability of SR.

I know. He was also in favor of harsher drug laws back then. He might still be for all I know. He’s not a savior.

Especially since he literally has called for the death penalty for drug dealers. This feels more like a stunt to get more libertarians to vote for him than him feeling legit bad about Ross.

biden loves criminals. why would he release Ross?

Yeah, but he wasn't charged with mere possession. It's dishonest to conflate possession with trafficking. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to traffic narcotics. I don't have any problem with him being released, but I think we have to draw a clear line between possession a trafficking.

The most popular drug “trafficked” on Silk Road was marijuana. Now I can walk into a store anywhere and buy it if I want to. There are still people in prison for selling it years ago.

I was there. They also sold heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and a host of other, more esoteric drugs. The audience for Marijuana is greater than the audience for heroin, and the other hard drugs. So it makes sense that Marijuana would be the biggest seller. But you can't just look at Marijuana in a bubble. You have to also consider the other drugs that were sold, often in bulk. I mean, there's no question he was trafficking narcotics. That's just a fact.

Dude, had the Kamala camp front-run and freed Ross (or worked with Biden to do so) last year, they would have defused major libertarian support. Would that have been enough to change the outcome of things? Who knows, but they certainly misplayed that hand.

Well fucking said

All true

Facts but i think "the swarm" is playing us still....Biden could have easily done it...also Trump on his 1st term....ultimately it comes down to money and political pressure by the people.....so Trump still get a boo hiss....but not today...tomorrow

Exactly this! it clearly showed the Democrats real goals, their own goals not the goals that drive the people
