I think the bots are targeting him and others. Targeting him is not the same as him causing it though

Fair enough. To clarify my initial statement further: I believe holding the person in charge of the relay accountable for the issues.
Maybe that’s too harsh on my part. Probably is. Which is why I’ve decided to learn to code. Truly. 🙏
The amount of #AI issues will continue to become more complex as the years go on. In my eyes the rise of Reply Guy/Girl is just one more invasion.

Then again there were many things I didn’t do before getting them approved through various safety checks. As this place continues to grow & technology develops it appears much will happen as we go along. It may be the only way to win over the bots 🤖 & traditional social media. Time will tell.

Malicious bots 🤖 will continue because narrative warfare will continue.
Kinder bots 🤖 will continue to be made to combat them.

Humans will make a choice of what they view & listen to. Humans should maintain their right to view what they desire IMO.
The kinder bots 🤖 won’t remove the spam but it’s possible that people will choose to seek better options.
Since people here have NPUBS people can choose whatever they view or listen to. That’s a good thing.
The relays that rely on WOT may not be currently be seen as being a good thing. It’s possible they are just a branch of part of #nostr They could be used similar to how Reddit boards are used.
People seem to enjoy corny chat to get together & discuss various topics. Right now I see WOT relays in a similar way. Time will tell what the best options are. Each can be different for varied reasons depending on the circumstances & the individual.
I thought we were talking about bots. I agree that people should choose what they want to see. That being said, spam is not content. I think it should be stopped. WoT or something else

It’s on several other relays as well. I had to stop fetching notes from "nostr.bitcoiner.social" and several other default relays on Amethyst.
This whole thing is a mess. Half of Nostr is hiding behind WoT relays, which I probably can’t write to, and the other half is likely drowning in spam. It’s... very frustrating.
I still connect public relays and just do client-side friend filtering. Wot relays aren’t the way.
If I used wot relays I wouldn’t have seen your message. Really bad solution that makes nostr into a bubble
I agree. Unfortunately, a lot of influential Nostr folks have locked themselves exclusively behind WoT relays. While I understand that relays operators need to do something to protect their relays, I think WoT works best on the client side. IMO, clients should allow users to quickly switch between displaying comments from direct connections, "connections of connections", or all of Nostr. It’s a much better experience than having users guessing if someone is even receiving their messages.
What client are you using? I think a lot of clients can do this, or maybe only damus can?
I'm using Amethyst and Nostrudel. Unfortunately I don't owon an iOS device otherwise I would certainly try Damus.
To be fair I can switch between Global and Following "top-level views" but the "following" view still displays everyone’s comments on both clients. My best option as a user is to stop reading from certain public relays under attack until the spam settles down. If I could select an option to display only comments from "followers of followers" or maybe 3rd-degree connections, most of the spam would be gone. Then, I could quickly disable it to welcome new users, etc. This would definitely be a much better user experience.

Anyways I've said you should put some restrictions on damus relay like this because clients outside damus are having an horrible experience.

Sorry for the delay, I wasn’t notified of your reply for some reason. When I enable relays under attack, it’s a mix of bot accounts impersonating others and replying with copies of random notes, plus occasional LLM-generated content. Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do about it with hidden word filters. My strategy with Amethyst has been to temporarily stop downloading notes from affected general relays and re-enable them later. As Will said, attacks seem to come and go, often jumping between different relays.
Yep the impersonator bots are the worst the replyguy is easy just add GM's on the mute word list and he will be gone.
Not every message is vital though. You could apply different levels of squelch to different relays.
How to fix it for the majority of users is what I believe most developers will consider. 🤞
Though I do see the benefit of WOT relays for workgroups. My concern is how quickly some places can become gossip or echo chambers. Not that I’ve seen it here but it’s happened elsewhere so that’s why I bring it up. But I haven’t spent much time in WOT relays so far.
I’m still using Damus relay and have no spam issue. All my spam was coming from Primal relay 🤷♂️
Its comes and goes. The spammer seems to have turned off the targeted attack against me for now. Maybe he got bored. The replyguy spam is less effective on the damus relay due to rate limit. I think there were 2 attackers. Just imagine having thousands of attackers though…
Empathy to you Will. I apologize if I sound harsh. Know I genuinely care about #nostr & do want all good things for this place. That said: I do apologize for not being clearer in my initial message.
The attackers will continue to come. Truly. It makes sense as #btc adoption grows. Especially from government agencies who don’t believe in adoption of freedom technology.
There are groups who want control over the world economy & Bitcoin & nostr prevent many of the typical avenues.
Wish I were wrong 😑 but historically this is how wars work. Information wars will continue to take hits from narrative warfare & those who seek to destroy freedom & trust. If history taught us anything it’s to prepare for the worst & hope for the best.
