I'm going to be switching to Linux Mint soon.

I would like to use a calendar program, but one of the problems I have had with calendar programs in the past is that they're set up primarily or solely for keeping track of appointments and meetings. One of the reasons I still use a paper calendar is I can and need to write anything I want on it.

Is there any Linux calendar program that will allow me to both write appointments in and just write notes or anything else?

I think you would be better off changing you're process to have 2 programs, notes and calendar.

alternatively, learn org-mode

you can use iCal (a protocol) with just about any calendar application, but you're gonna want a server that supports it.

you could maybe do that on your local machine, but I can't tell you how off the top of my head.

if you want you calendar on multiple devices, consider Fastmail as your iCal provider

It's standardized and portable between applications.
