I’m still not over the denial of reality by large swaths of society. It still gets to me.

Same.

I wondered this morning, are they really satisfied with bumbling along in this mess?

Anyone that thinks they have a firm grasp on what is reality is not to be trusted.

I think it's possible to have a decent sense of what’s false.

Maybe, but it's not easy. Most people don't want to put in the effort.

Pretty easy to see that all one’s boosted friends still got covid, for example.

They may have gotten less sick than they would have without it though. My mom, who is immunocompromised, got the shot and still got covid, but maybe she would have died without the boost.

It’s possible, but I don’t think there was much evidence it helped.

I was having a discussion with friends about how conversation is sometimes hampered these days as information assymetry seems to have led to people living in different realities. But it’s very multi layered depending on topics

Actually wrote something on that very topic a couple years ago — a lot of people just believe whatever they’re incentivized to believe, and the facts are not especially relevant to them:

Very interesting take. Thank you. It’s been enlightening trying to debate and discuss issues over the past few years. Covid etc polarised a lot of society in an extreme manner. My approach was fairly simple. I tried to piece things together whilst reading every research paper I could. I probably read over 2000 and considered data to be of assistance when discussing things. Boy was I wrong! The other thing I find interesting is the perceived need of belief rather than a probablistic mental model which varies according to new information.

Thanks — I know what you mean!
