25 years ago in science class, teenage me learned that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
Not once has that knowledge come in handy.

gm utxo, knowledge is cool for its own sake
Then you never played Parasite Eve
That is expected for general education - it mostly consist of knowledge that wonβt end up in professional or daily use. It still provides a rough scaffold of orientation and a potential later specialization. For example: I had to read and summarize Emil Zolaβs Germinal. Never used that again (until right now π). Still - tacitly changed my view on life.
I learned that only recently and find it fascinating.
Research how much ATP your mitochondria produce daily to keep you alive and moving... Look at a YouTube video of a model of the rotating molecular motor that manufactures that chemical power for you. Consider that mitochondria are common to all living things.
To me, they evidence the mind-shattering genius of Jesus/God, the Designer and Creator of all things.π
Itβs impossible to design a curriculum that consists of 100% knowledge that every single student will end up using in daily life.
Yes, it is. There's just a lot of inertia. We are moving to/already are in an era where facts are at everyone's fingertips. Educators shouldn't be the experts where students ask questions for answers. They should provide scaffolding that guides students in forming good questions and teaching them to wade through nonsense on the internet to find correct answers.

All knowledge are interrelated. You may not need that knowledge directly but I am sure you used/applied it unconsciously.
