Hardware sells pretty well and has a longer shelf life than most plugins so it’s understandable its incentivised via influencers etc.

Personally I use a bit of both , the DAW is great but somethings I prefer in the analogue world.

I was speaking to a musician/developer recently and they we’re a little surprised tablets haven’t taken off more for control. I’ve yet to really use iPads except for mixing live bands which I honestly dislike when compared to working with a desk and faders. But I see how they can be used for sound manipulation and it’s pretty cool.

Whatever works and excites you is the answer I think. Look forward to reading more!

Totally understand that and a lot of it depends on how we all get into music in the first place and then how we work with it from there. Mixing - I did have a Bluebox for my small desktop studio as I call it which is hybrid but I sold it. I want to go back to one with faders!!!

hardware for a noob? using DAW linux os?

any write up?

There are a number of very reasonably priced boutique hardware synths. I love my Roland S1 for example. DAWs for Linux, Reaper and Bitwig? There is another one called Ardour which I’ve little experience of but did install on my Linux laptop. I’ve a couple of laptops, one is a Mac the other a Dell with Ubuntu installed.

Hope this helps?

Reaper is cool on Linux and free if you click ‘still evaluating’ although a single user license is only $60 and it’s a brilliant DAW! Hardware it’s worth checking the Behringer stuff as you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Yep I’ve been considering the Crave for years!!

Nice, I haven't played with one but a friend has one and loves it.

Keep thinking of playing with Reaper a bit more as it happens.

It's cool once you find the right set up, now it's pretty much got what I had in Pro Tools but quicker and loads of other cool stuff.

Well Pro Tools is a standard indeed. I installed it recently, just need to find the time to try it out in conjunction with a keyboard and something like my Oxi One.

I had the intro version of Ableton for a while and upgraded to Standard. It’s got so much stuff in there that’s I’ve never used. I think it’s important to maximise this first before reaching for a new plugin be as and influencer said so. Just my 2 sats. As for hardware, mine just collects dust. I got rid of a couple things and bought some sats lol

There are plenty of Max for live devices that are great, free and paid, supporting indie devs is important. You are right as there is so much that can be done with stock plugins anyway.
