I’m honestly fucking pissed.

DATA WITHOUT CONTEXT IS MANIPULATION.

Unless you are walking everywhere, hang dry your laundry, do not use air or water travel, nor consume anything that gets to your country by way of these, don’t use a refrigerator, don’t participate in anything that necessitates a data center: STFU ABOUT #BITCOIN  MINING.

They should rename them selves to circle jerk forum.

True but at least this info offers context to energy consumption

Back to the food waste I mentioned earlier.

30-40% of all food is going to waste.

30% of all energy in the world is going to production of food and beverages.

So is that about 10-12% of the worlds energy that’s goes to waste because of that?

Total energy consumption in the word in 2021 was 176431TW

176431 *0,12 = 21.171,72TW on wasted food.

Bitcoin is 166TW or about 1:10062 of the food that’s get thrown away.

So those stupid statistics can The WEF put up where the sun don’t shine.

The arguments of energy consumption just make no sense.

You cannot say used energy is good or bad. If energy is bought or produced in an open market, it has no morality stuck to it. Otherwise we would need to abolish wars, Christmas lights, drying tumblers,…

Another interesting point is that blocks are under-utilized nowadays. According to Michel Khazzaka’s research last year, Bitcoin could increase its utility by 4x without consuming any more energy.

Can’t say that about the other items here, except maybe for some data centers.

Counting Bitcoin energy use per TX or block is low level stuff.

If you're trying to figure out per Capita energy usage then you have to make an assumption on number of users said energy use is protecting.

Let's say we stand at 100m btc users;

That's close to the population of Russia;

Larger than Argentina & Switzerland;

So it's safe to assume that we are using LESS energy than what would be expected, to protect the economic activity of 100m (&growing) users.

Filling blocks or not doesn't make anything more or less efficient, it's a fallacy.

That’s a good way of looking at it.
