Who is making more than 2% per year running a lightning node right now? Guesses and facts welcome. #noderunners

From routing alone? Probably none. Every node operator needs a zap strategy on nostr. Memes work well 😂

Probably true. So that would be WoS?

I wouldn’t be surprised if WoS is in a class of node due to its size that routes enough to be profitable. But they also earn more than just routing fees because they charge swap fees when you send/receive on chain. And because their parent company is a payments service, it could also be that the other services enabled/facilitated by their nodes earn a profit that offsets the cost of the node itself. Just guessing of course.

You mean <0.002% not even close🤣

Then why do it? There have to be noderunners that are consistent enough to make a marginal profit right?

I started the node to learn. Have closed most of my channels now and have like 5 bigger channels left to big nodes so that I’m sure that my payments find a way.

All that management to make sure they are balanced and such. I just don’t got the time for it.

But I’m glad that I did it and I like the little node I got running now. And I get excited when I zap and I know that I’m sending from my node and not just WoS.

I wouldn’t dare presume to run a lightning node for profit, am way too tardid

I just wanna be part of the potential future payment network of the entire world 😄

You just described me 🤣

But I can't believe it's running on sheer stubbornness right now.

Yeah, small amount. You have to make it a job and scale that shit up hard. Lots of maintenance. I’d think those that do scale up considerably are also cloud hosting.

That's what I think too, but who are they if you'd guess?

There are probably a few wizards out there that can do it naturally. Your average user could come close if they focused on selling liquidity. Using Magma on Amboss has avg APR at 3.46%

Clear Net (doxing) have a better chance, I don't think a Tor only node could make that yield, always thinking of "routing fees". There are alternatives but you must put a lot of work to "sell" your channels.
