Fucking sheets in the wind. One week it’s self custody or die. The next week it’s the complete opposite. Swimming in bullshit. I came here to get away from it.

What’s so funny? I have a vague memory of you shitting on WoS and custodial lightning last week 🤨
We all intermittently shit on it, but it’s the way most people start and it serves a purpose. Honestly I think custodial wallets should put hard limits on the amount anyone can store there and direct their users to self-custody wallets, or better yet, offer one up themselves. I implored WoS to make one months ago and if they had done that, it could have made a big difference.
I never said custodial wallets were right one way or the other. That’s not the point.
Sheets in the mother fucking wind.
All we are is sheets in the wind…
Some of us are rocks.
Sounds boring!
Anyway, I’m not here to argue this any further, that’s what I also came here to get away from. I respect you guys too much for that. But let’s leave a little room for nuance.
Of course I am shitting on custodial wallets like wos and primal also not exception! Today I said it that the apple cut off fees are too high and custodial way isn’t the way. But why I am bullish is because they are the first one who implemented such a model and the other clients will follow but with different models. NWC is good for plebs like me and you but not for the newcomers ! None custodial wallet implemented inside the client will be win and something like integrated robosats will be cherry on top.
Custodial wallets need to do the responsible thing and help educate users about withdrawing to self custody, I don’t see it being in their interest to be a bank, unless they are doing something shady with the deposits. WoS has a ridiculous limit of 5 BTC that they will hold for you. It should be more like 500K sats.

Custodial wallets are the cancer. Thankfully to nostr:npub1mutnyacc9uc4t5mmxvpprwsauj5p2qxq95v4a9j0jxl8wnkfvuyque23vg nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 Phoenix and Breez devs who are working hard to change it and shift people out of such models, custodial wallets will be eliminated. Development just takes time.
Why is this so hard to communicate? People need to first have something to self-custody. It’s a journey. We have to show them why and how but you can’t expect most people to get there on day one.
😂 Daniel, do I need to quote our conversation from last week, where we spent over an hour discussing this. You were on the complete other side of this issue.
Fuck man, give it a rest.
Find my quote and I’ll explain the context to you. I’ve been consistent about this. Custodial is easier in the beginning, but self custody is something everyone should learn.

I was ready to leave it alone.
Please explain the entire conversation. Here you go:

This was a response to the fact that WoS made an unfortunate and immediate decision to pull their apps from the app stores without clear communication to their users, and anyone who had been holding sats on it had no way to know what was happening or why.
But there is a difference that might not be apparent here, and it starts with a communication protocol. Whenever I meet someone in person, I try to explain to them the difference between custodial and noncustodial wallet and why they shouldn’t rely on it for more than a small amount. But let’s say it’s a person I might not see again, how would I be able to let them know a situation like what happened to WoS?
If they are here on the #Nostr, using a client that has a custodial “starter” wallet, we have an opportunity to stay engaged and help them learn about different options, so they can explore the world of self-custody for themselves, which I continue to advocate for.
I admit this is not an easy issue to communicate all at once. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I also think it’s the responsibility of the client and wallets to push their users toward learning self custody.
I had too many sats in my Alby account while I was in the process of upgrading my node last week and they reached out and sent me this email.
I’d like to see more of this.
