It took me a while to understand this, especially as a child. I always wanted to have my possessions in mint condition. Eventually, I realized that this meant that I wasn't enjoying them.

I'm still like this with my books and boardgames, my very favourite possessions! Nobody ever fucks with Mom's games & books..😜

Exactly! Also, one can keep things in good condition and still use them heavily. It takes extra care at first but then it becomes automatic.

Correct. I still work hard to keep things in good condition. I just don't have my world end now if my $350 boots get a scratch on them the second time that I wore them 😬

“The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything.”

I was hard core like this as a kid. I couldn’t even use stickers because I couldn’t commit and didn’t want to use them up. I still fight hard with myself on this as an adult.

Haha... I may still do this with all of my Bitcoin and Nostr stickers 🤓 I have many on a laptop, but I plan to make a nice shadow box when I get a few more items.

Glad I’m not the only one still.

phone cover/case is for that special occasion when you accidentally drop the phone and cant afford replacing it

I hate phone cases and didn't use them until a couple years ago. I've only ever broken one screen in all of my years owning mobile devices.

I wanted so badly to not use a case, but iPhones are slickery as shit without a case. I never drop my phone in a case, and yet I kick them all over the place when they’re case-less!

I haven't dropped a phone in the 20 years I've been using them. It's not something I worry about.

I realized this truth a few years ago. It changed me for the better. I hope.

Thanks for putting it into words.

Don't thank me, thank the original screenshot 🤣

It’s the fear we developed when our money devalued at break neck speeds and replacing our possessions got more and more expensive over time. BTC FIXES THIS

I struggle to understand people who use a case for their Apple Watch Ultra

Yeah I get it. But I like taking care of my shit. I enjoy a few nice things and enjoy keeping them nice. I have a nice watch that I was gifted. I take really good care of it. All of my electronics are spotless. There’s nothing wrong with taking care of your stuff. I throw up a little bit in my mouth when I see someone over a certain age tapping on a cracked phone screen. People who let their stuff go to shit are usually scummy people.

And this is rich coming from HODL who periodically reminds everyone that he wears a new pair of socks every day.

same with cars. I used to take care of my first car so well. Clean it often and do oil changes every 5k, never put stickers on it.

I realized cars are junk and have problems as you hit 10 years or earlier even if you take perfect care of it so the car after my first car I rarely wash it, oil changes every 2 years and I put stickers on it and many other things. It's going in the garbage around 10 years so enjoy it and just drive it and who cares how it looks or if it has scratches.

In a melting ice berg fiat standard you feel compelled to find something rare and keep it mint. Desperate to find that lottery ticket against inflation and debasement.
