One of the risks I have for #bitcoin is the base layer being compromised or there being a big in the code. What percentage chance would you out this happening? #nostr #grownostr #plebchain

I think it would have happened by now. #Bitcoin core code is pretty simple which makes the chance of bugs and attacks very low. It's also freely available, so anyone that wants to try is free to view it and look for vulnerabilities. Layer 1 Bitcoin is the most secure network on the planet.
It's simplicity is the feature as that minimizes the likelihood of bugs, but if anything like that happened there's forks that could be used. Consensus would be the problem though.
There's been bugs before. I think the biggest hurdles will be caused by governments and legislation. The cypherpunk ethos is simply not compatible with governments.
Iβve got that on my list of risks a well. π«‘
Bitcoin has been up and running for over a decade, and the incentives to crack it are massive. The fact that it hasn't been done yet doesn't necessarily mean that it's impossible, but it strongly suggests that it might be.
The real weak point of attack will always be the exchanges and other systems that require you to give up control of your keys.
Read these, then letβs discuss your concerns.
