Blimey , so many nice places in Italy.. I think I’d stay north by the lakes or over the north east in Trieste, great access to the mountains and the foods the best in Italy for sure.

City? I'm more of a small town (or an island) guy. Mullumbimby, Byron Bay, Mission Beach, Magnetic Island in Australia are all great options. The winter is starting here tho so the NSW options are going to be a bit cold.
I'd say Sicily. Somewhere near Taormina, but keep away from the tourist traps. Some of the older villages are gems, but there isn't a lot happening as they have been crushed by fiat.
