Folks using v0.17, keep an eye on your blocked users list. The new filter is trying to block spam by checking duplicated messages with > 50 characters.

I don't know if that is a good idea, it has been working well for me during the past day. Let me know if you find a blocked user that should not be blocked.

Also, although the list appears together with your usual block list, the auto-block is kept separately and deleted after some time (more like a timeout than a block). But you can always choose to see the user again in that interface.

Also nostr and amethyst channels are auto enrolling me even if I leave them. Those channels are somehow evading my paid relay only global feed setting.

They will be back if you log off an sign in again. When you log off, the local database that keeps the information about the channels you follow is deleted and the app thinks it's a new user.

Global relays only affect the global feed. Public chat relays (the peoples' icon) is used for public chats.

Hopefully it is >2 duplicate messages. Sometimes using an different client messages wouldn't post. So I'd repost and then dulicwste would appear.

You need a zap-supported receiving wallet. Wallet of Satoshi, lnbits and strike.army seem to be the only options now

Thanks Vitor, I like your idea of the separate, temporary block that will reduce spam while also not permablock individuals that might accidentally trigger the algorithm.

If the temporary block is triggered multiple times in a short time, the effect of the cooldown could be lengethened so that actual spammers block themselves for a long period of time, or that they activate a perma-block.

That can only be achieved in a centralised service.

In nostr the keypair (public and private keys) is the only guaranteed unique identifier.

I'm still new here, but the mere existence of the concept "handle" feels kind of redundant. Seems like pubkey + display name would be enough.

I think it's fine for now, bit it'll become contentious when public figures join and they attract imitators. When that happens, integrations with other decentralised identity management systems (KILT protocol etc) will become more important, IMO.
