The big pile of tedious, expensive, incompatible bullshit involved in trying to host your own content is why centralized social networks took over & are now able to manipulate everyone. If we are going to win we have to offer peer to peer solutions & super user friendly ways to host & share content, that are as easy as facebook without the censorship & ads & other nonsense.
I don't think keet & holepunch will be more niche than nostr in a year or so from now. I'm not sure nostr will survive long term, but I think holepunch is likely to really change things. Maybe the two will be able to work together.
Hosting or seeding is always going to cost more in resources, but if we want a network that actually grows & functions long term, seeding should not be any harder than clicking share or making a post.
