Today we went crawdad finding fishing for the first time. Went t o a creek outside of Port Alberni.

We ate 4. Missed a few others while we were trying to figure out our strategy. Ended up using our hands to catch them on the chicken we brought.

I haven't had the heart to catch the few we have in our creek. I want them to multiply enmass but haven't found a good way to get them breeding more. The water is clean enough since they live there. Such tasty creatures though!

I was so fortunate as a kid to have a creek running through our property that was just teeming with these โ€œmud bugsโ€. I could catch 50 plus in an outing by quickly thrusting a hand into the water and quickly tossing them into a 5 gallon pail next to me. Iโ€™d bring them back to the house and feed half a dozen to our raccoon and freeze the rest for the next big feed. And there were so many frogs it was super easy to get a good side of frog legs going too.

One of my favourite places to visit is Houston/Galveston area when fresh crawfish are in huge supply. Iโ€™ve been down there for 10-14 days at a time and eaten crawfish etouffรฉ every single day and sometimes twice a day lol. Cooked shelled crawfish in dirty rice and brown gravy. Smack yo mama. My โ€œlast meal dishโ€ for sure.

Sounds amazing. We are trying to build those memories.

Looks like a really fun day ๐Ÿ˜

Twas indeed. Will probably use a trap is some kind next time.
