It’s nonsense, but it gets pulled out by politicians and Hollywood all the time. The kicker is “same work and same qualifications.” The stat doesn’t account for any of it, it doesn’t even account for hours worked. If you simply count for the number of hours worked then half of the disparity instantly disappears. Men just work longer hours.

80% less is also by far the biggest pay gap stat I’ve ever heard. It implies a woman makes 20k doing a job a man would make 100k at.
Usually the go-to is that women make 78 cents compared to a dollar a man makes (I’m unfortunately familiar with the rhetoric).
nostr:npub1f6ugxyxkknket3kkdgu4k0fu74vmshawermkj8d06sz6jts9t4kslazcka I say this in as nice a way as possible, making arguments citing such wildly inaccurate numbers not only makes me question your judgement on this topic, but on all other topics as well.
Oh no she meant the other way. 80% OF what men make, not less. So it’s suggesting a women of the same skill, position, experience and hours would make $80 to the man’s $100.
It’s clearly not true, but if you explain all of the plethora of reasons why men and women don’t make exactly the same it’s far less useful politically.
Another fantastic and simple stat they leave out is hazard pay. Women almost invariably do not work dangerous jobs. 99% of workplace deaths are men. Yes, that is NINETY NINE.
Men who an uneducated, doing blue collar work, get paid good money because they literally go to work and might fucking die because of what they do. Obviously this is not accounted for, and the fact that we have no women working on the power lines doesn’t get much attention from screaming liberals.
And I realize I’m getting a little pointed with my remarks and I’ll apologize. I know everyone here just wants things to be better for everyone, and we all look for things that confirm what we expect to find.
I don’t mean to sound so aggressive.
All good guy, good correction, you’re probably right.
I would recommend Thomas Sowell’s work for anyone who would like to understand why these types of stats are often abused and can be highly misleading. https://youtu.be/WK4M9iJrgto
