I am not sure if you are wrong but I think “fake” is the wrong word.

The people who believe it are real. Much of the content is created and shared by people who do have a genuine belief.

Perhaps “astroturfed” is better term than “fake.”

And it also seems to be a mix of things that are genuinely fake such as images from nasa that at one time claimed to be real and are now admitted to be false with a limited understanding of certain concepts such as the fact that velocity is always relative.

And people are so burnt out by the lies they do not know what to think anymore. Hell maybe the Earth is flat! At this point I might believe it. The problem is much of the "proof” or flat earth memes I see are easy to explain if you have studied physics.

You are probably right, and I am sure some people do believe it, but that they were, coerced, somehow, into believing it :)
