First you could export child seeds via SeedQR from our Key Manager extension.

Next you'll be able to populate the Passport master seed from a SeedQR or Compact SeedQR. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

So..... your keys are not stored in words, but a QR code? Or is this just to move seeds to another hardwallet?

Just a different way to represent seeds, originally made by SeedSigner, a stateless device that requires you to enter your seed every time you turn it on. Not exactly a fun thing to do on a Raspberry Pi with three tiny buttons.

QR codes all store plain text, re: words.

Apart from the compact option.

How is that piece of code handling that?

Because obviously it's translated to a plain text when the HWW reads it.

By converting the binary data.

Compact is binary which will look like gibberish to newbs. Really expands the options for hiding M-of-N in plain sight.

Explain further please. Does this mean it could function as a replacement for a seedsigner? Or used as a signing device for the seedplate?

Passport is not stateless, so it's not a drop in replacement for a device like a SeedSigner, but you could easily use one in a very similar way and get many of the other benefits Passport offers.

A stateless seedqr mode would be very interesting, such that you selected the mode and Passport stayed in seedqr mode, forgetting the seed each time on power down.

We are considering it.

I bought a passport incorrectly expecting this feature. I'm not using it because its not there.
