you can post to one blaster relay that rebroadcasts it to every relay, no?
Discussion
Imagine all relays holding all posts from everybody in the entire world. Does that look scalable?
In any case, this is what Peter Todd was saying: if all posts are in all relays the smaller relays will die, people will naturally flock to a small set of the biggest and most reliable relays, then everybody will just publish to these and all posts will be on these, suddenly these relays can block anyone they want.
yep, i tend to agree
also, the lack of any real understanding and transparency of what relay am i posting to or what relay am i reading a note from makes it kinda odd
i don't see any noticable difference adding or removing a relay, which often times makes it look like you're paying for a relay, that doesn't really change much
It's not a problem until it is. I mean when they realize that they are censored, they can switch. You can't switch on other social media.
the point is the freedom to choose, isn't it?
You could always switch from Twitter to Gab, or from one Mastodon server to another, nothing new here.
This is a really great way of putting it. It describes how nostr is a protocol and not a platform. If relays start to censor, instead of having to start fresh on a whole new platform, you can take your followers and content to new relays, instead of a whole new context.
Much easier to route around.
add a NIP: user can op-in for a feature to not store old notes older than x time.
Why would somebody will keep their shitposting forever?
People are not even reading notes older than 3 days.
There is already such a NIP. But honestly most public relays should just delete all old events anyway.
Could relays self-propogate note references, without content, so people can see that something was posted on the relay and which one they would need to subscribe to? The note content could just be "Note posted to wss:/something.nostr" which would bring awareness to users on missing notes. The more centralization gets abused the more users will see note references, with an implied suggestion to use said relays.
Shut me down lightly 🤣
That was kind of the idea of having relay hints whenever you reply to a note, and relay hints when you "repost" a note. It would be a nudge to other clients receiving your note that you are reading stuff from some other relays they should check out.
With email that's kind of how it works today and I don't see how nostr isn't going to go the same way.
