It’s hot in SoCal. Everytime I pop on the AC for a bit, my husband’s spidey senses activate and he immediately turns it back off and gives me a mini lecture about money.

Probably both, I didn't let us build a house until I knew I could drop the temp to 68 without breaking the bank.
