From today, it is officially legal again for US persons to use Tornado Cash â But that doesn't mean that the Government's witch hunt on privacy services is over.
Announcing the reversal of sanctions, the Treasury Department issued a warning for US persons engaging with privacy services that may be used by North Korea.
According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, "securing the digital asset industry from abuse by North Korea and other illicit actors is essential to establishing U.S. leadership and ensuring that the American people can benefit from financial innovation and inclusion."
The sanctions on Tornado Cash were lifted under the current interpretation of IEEPA, while the judges found that Congress may choose to amend the Act to cover sanctions against privacy software if it deems fit.
