#asknostr are stainless steel milk jugs airtight?
Discussion
Does the steel jug have a airtight lid or top? Let's figure this one out.
Some on nostr has to know lol
Show pic of lid
I don’t have one?
That’s why I’m asking?
Screenshot? It depends on the design they won't all be the same
Best I could find…

A little lost in translation as I don't understand why a milk 'jug' would have a lid or need to be airtight but I do have herb storage jars with push on lids similar to the picture with the silicone sealing ring and it's ok for that kind of thing (general pantry storage) but not good enough if you need 100% airtight. Jam would go mouldy in them for example
Yeah trying to figure out if it’s good enuff to store vanilla extract during the maceration process.
Needs to be air, water & vapor tight.
👍 How long is the process?
No less then 1 year…
Wouldn't risk it, can you get mason jars? I've used jars that would have been fine for jam but without the vacuum process they didn't seal airtight, alcohol evaporated from one and dried mushroom went soft in another
Currently using mason jars with great results and virtually no loss of alcohol over 2 years in jars…
Handling and storing the amount I may try to scale up to though will become an issue even using 1/2 gallon ones…
Hear me out... Wrap the jug in cling wrap...
Yeah I plan on keeping them in milk crates to help prevent issues…
Not air tight.

The mason jars lol
Dropping 1/2 gallon mason jars is the big loss leader in the homemade vanilla extract world lol
Tricky. A pail with the lid you showed will be good, all you need to do is improve the seal? Could you clamp, providing pressure to the silicon seal. Wax it, or clingfilm on top? Those lids only didn't work for me due to the pull off design, some have grippers which are better
This one has to clamps
