That's interesting experiment might have to try it out. It could be that the moon is not reflecting the infrared but it still reflecting other frequencies of the light.

Hi friend this is expected because the object in the moon shade has an object shielding it from the open sky. Objects loose heat from infarad radiation to the open exposed sky. When an object is blocking the open sky some of the objects heat is reflected back down to the object so it looses less heat. To properly test what you want to test you need to create an object that blocks most of the open sky, except for the moon. Like a small dome with a hole just for the moonlight. And a second small dome made of wire with a hung circle to block only/mostly the moonlight on the object. Then take identical objects to an open field where both areas were in the same light conditions. Then put down your domes and objects. Put one object in the wire dome blocking the moonlight on the object but mostly open to the sky. Put the other object in the solid dome with the hole, so it is mostly blocked from the open sky, but in the moonlight. Take your measurements. You want the sky to be clear and a full moon, full moon to give the best chance to see your “cold light” and a clear sky because a cloudy sky will diminish the effect of the open sky as the clouds will also reflect infrared back down. My hypothesis is the object in the moon light will be a higher temperature for longer. The object more exposed to the opensky but blocking the moonlight will be colder.
