If clients implemented relay feeds you could just go to news.utxo.one to check the news without clogging up your follow feed

Then to catch up on top notes for past few days you could browse algo.utxo.one

Then you go to gm.swarmstr.com and reply GM to everyone today

But sadly you cannot do this on most clients

new-gen nostr clients like jumble.social and nosotros.app fix this

Lists also fix the news issue.

They don't if the client using the list doesn't have outbox and can't find the notes!

Not supporting the outbox model in 2025 is just dumb. Did they not see my prediction on December 31, 2023 stating that all clients will support the outbox model by the end of 2024? Shame.

there’s not even a performant android client yet, this is not the biggest issue.

Sir I'm talking to you on the best Android client that exists today and it supports outbox!

I guess we have different tolerances for usability

There was a time when I had to clear the cache on Amethyst multiple times per day. Now I have to do it once a week. We are winning.

Do either of you have immersive scrolling enabled? I found disabling this took my performance from a 3 to a 9. It was night and day, on a modern device that doesn't really lag in other apps.

I have it on since it's on by default. I don't have much lag. When I do, I know clearing cache will fix it.

It's strange, I was running it fine at the beginning of the year. I switched to a new device, and it still ran fine. I was using a Pixel 4a before with no issues with immersive scrolling. I have never cleared my cache once since buying this phone in like March. Never cleared on the Pixel either. It was soon after I got this phone that my experience became terrible, which I'm thinking now could have been cache-related. Nonetheless, I am still issue free since disabling, and am curious about this issue and it's frequency.

I'll try disabling it and see if I can tell any difference in performance or having to clear cache less.

Amethyst doesn't support outbox if that's what you're using 😭

It supports it to some extent. Maybe publishing events is broken and it goes to profile relays and outbox relays too, but outbox and inbox and DM relays all seem to work when configured. I can read your NewsBots just fine for example. Could it work better? Yes.

The main purpose is to use your follows relay list when composing your feed. If you remove my WoT relay from your list you won't see newsbot anymore

I think people should try implementing outbox first in a performant way with intuitive ux before they lob criticisms at devs for not having it. I created nostrdb just so i could even begin to think about implementing outbox in a way that would be performant and reliable and that took a year. The switch from trusted relays to *any* relay requires client hardening to prevent evil relays from messing up your feeds and DoSing you.

Does Notedeck fetch notes from outbox and inbox relays, stores them locally and displays them from the local db?

the ui only ever talks to the nostrdb. we can fetch in many different ways, we just dump the results into nostrdb where notes get verified and local subscriptions get triggered . This prevents relays for messing with the behaviour of things.

We don’t currently do outbox but now that all of the issues are no longer a problem adding it should be pretty simple and is a high priority. Probably will have it sometime this or next month once we implement our subscription manager nostr:npub1s5rq2ztdh76shy578znvympa2mzz2vjushs9mc5mwkdupewke67qeuf7u3

that makes sense. thanks. notedeck is so incredibly buttery smooth. it's good to be obsessed with performance. honestly. users will appreciate it. i know i sure do every time i use notedeck or even damus on my dummy iphone. i immediately notice how smooth damus is compared to every other nostr app that i've ever used.

i find damus ios very slow, we are planning on switching damus ios over to the way notedeck does it soon, but its a large refactor/rewrite so it may take some time. Notedeck has been our testbed of this new model as we figure out how to do things.

You have nice handwriting

I can’t take credit. Apple’s AI makes it look nicer lol

Oh!? I may have to revisit my settings 👀

it should be on by default. when you write it seems to "fix up" messing handwriting. or maybe it only does that on newer ipads.

Looks like an OS update to 18 is in order

I've been afraid to activate.

I’ve given up on note privacy. Sync all the things.

Not supporting outbox in one of the most popular clients makes everyone else's lives harder, not just your users. Adding it will have a much bigger impact on nostr's success and user experience across the network than improving performance (damus is already really fast).

I want those socks.

This is why i’ve been working my ass off for the past year to make it possible and while still being performant (and even more so)

I think it's a bigger issue that if I follow an npub, the client can't find all the notes by that npub. Or if we quote tweet something the users see note not found. These are the very basics that we can't even do

The number of times i run into this issue is extremely low. Not saying its not important, i just want a fast client first so that outbox is fast too.

I run into the issue quite often and click through hoping the post quoted or replied too will load but it doesn’t :-(

When I see this happen the notes load a second later after they're found...

These are both starting to happen more & more. It took me a little while to realize that it's not something thats broken, but a sign of growth as more relays & semi-contained ecosystems pop up.

UI for lists remains awful. Much rather be able to browse a relay.

clients could add better list support. in 2 months i will mark the anniversary of me asking for list support for 2 years. im excited.

Been asking for better relay management in clients for like a whole year now. We call them topical relays and a topical relay explorer is the client view.

In damus there is a workaround, if you’re in the global feed you can click the top right icon thing and turn off all but one relay, refresh, and BAM! Topical relay explorer in Damus! I use it to check your news relay already!

nostr:npub1syjmjy0dp62dhccq3g97fr87tngvpvzey08llyt6ul58m2zqpzps9wf6wl you could add this as a default feed on Jumble.

I think so, too

I just started using #Jumble with your news feed, and it's awesome! It has me thinking about what other types of feeds you could have. I might try something myself.

Also, I appreciate the #PoW npub on each NewsBot 👍

Definitely try the algo feed

I did, and I like the posts that I see. How does it work? and how often does it update?

What clients can use the news.utxo.one properly?

Jumble.social is best implementation so far

Good to know. Thanks

I fully agree! I'm happy to see the new Outbox relay and look forward to more client-side support for it. On an unrelated note, I don't think swarmstr.com and the GM relay are up anymore. Its developer was considering the possibility of bringing it back at some point last year but at least to me it is still down. This is one Nostr relay that I really miss.
