Yup, GrapheneOS on Google Pixel phones has seemed like a temporary strategy that has turned into a permanant one, but ultimately the hardware _also_ needs to be degoogled.

Pine64 and Librem and the two hardware options that seem to be on the right path there, however there is quite a bit of work yet in getting mobile GNU/Linux mobile ready, it's much closer though.

So what is the best option for privacy and security for the lay person?

Phone and Laptop

Probably PinePhone, don't listen to these glowie retards talking over a mastodon bridge. Ask them how talking about hardware backdoors in Pixel phones was a good reason to ban me from GrapheneOS official chat rooms

I’m waiting for Graphene hardware to go with GrapheneOS. Would be awesome.

Great, glowie shit from Gleason's bridges in the Primal trending feeds

Having a hardware manufacturer that supports a free software operating systems is very important. Google could block alternative/non-approved operating systems from being loaded on Pixels. A monopoly on a secord-order good is a security risk.

Having an ability to disable power to the cellular radio, or to turn it off permanently, is an important feature. Real-time location surveillance and tracking, via cellular, is one of the largest privacy problems with mobile phones. Pixel devices do not have this feature.
