Just listened to TFTC.

Parker is plain wrong.

Nostr is not a distraction.

Nostr is an incredible freedom and coordination tool; it will ultimately orange-pill far more people than all bitcoin companies combined.

The systems he is saying that someone will have to build: gas stations, electricity delivery. All these commerce which requires buyer<>vendor communication.

All these systems will likely be on nostr.

With bitcoin payments natively built into them.

Bitcoin is a communication of value.

Nostr will be the coordination of that trade.

Yup, listening to that I was like wtf, nostr is probably the most important thing to be focusing on (not that you can/should control what other people focus on).

You can't have functional markets without freedom of commutation. And routing around state+big-tech censorship of communication channels is a hugely important step in terms of getting access to reliable information.

furthermore, 99% of non-bitcoiners are stuck on level-1 FUD like "bitcoin is too slow" or "bitcoin uses 1M barrels of oil per tx"

I wrote https://zaplife.lol as a joke, but it turned into a powerful tool to show non-bitcoiners how the bitcoin-can-do-7-tps is bullshit.

There is some real power in seeing a live feed of small payments flying by your screen.

I nearly had to stop the car when he shat all over Nostr.

But I still found the podcast informative and useful.

Haven't listened yet, but I agree that trustworthy & censorship free ways to communicate & share news & ideas are as critical as #Bitcoin itself. We can't coordinate or settle on what problems most need to be addressed if our ability to connect with one another can be easily disrupted or manipulated.

Plus there’s a whole bunch of commerce tools that will be built on nostr+bitcoin

ananostr.com was my very first nostr client because free and open communications with in-protocol payments are a 100x UX improvement over legacy solutions that have but synthetic integration of these systems.

Free commerce will thrive on nostr, and bitcoin (aka freedom) will benefit greatly from it.

imo short term it’s definitely a distraction and hides bitcoin signal from the people we hope to orange pill. that’s not to say it’s not an overwhelming net gain. i think it can be both, and i think in the long term it will orange pill more people, but it’s definitely a short term stunt to that effort

Agreed. I see where he is coming from but it still is a bad take. The past couple of years has shown how badly speech has been corrupted. If there was less propaganda and censorship, i think bitcoin would be more heavily adopted today. We need places like nostr to usher in a new era of media that isn’t controlled by algos or propaganda. Free speech will reign again.

This was not on my bingo card. Surprising. Time and time again, though, those who haven’t immersed themselves (maybe he has?) don’t get it.

Spot on, nostr is not a distraction, it is going to allow devs to communicate and build what Parker is describing way faster.

I’ll relay the message!

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ dad jokes ftw

Love this: Bitcoin is a communication of value.

Nostr will be the coordination of that trade.

I didn’t know you were here, Marina! 🧑🧑
