Nostr is less frustrating when you take it for what it is, and not what could/should/expected to become.

Nostr (for the most part) is a microblogging experiment which is currently a hangout for its own devs and some BT expats, and a smattering of Other Stuffs.

Twitterx is offering a 'good enough' compromise on censorship and reach for most. And for those with Elon daddy-issues, they have Bluesky. Insta is still going strong too. That seems to be the situation atm. It can't really be seen as an alternative to these things IMO.

I think onboarding people should bear this in mind or something.

But it is an interesting experiment and it has a unique factor of being a protocol which can be built on.

That is my take and I'm not even sticking to it 😤

Xitter is not good enough once you see it as a closed source, data harvesting, ad force-feeding, surveillance and outrage generation machine. #DeleteXitter

'good enough' here I really meant in terms of the trade off that content creators / larger accounts see. They are often aware of these issues you mention, but the trade off is with audience reach, both existing and attempting to grow. And twitterx is currently offering an 'okay' amount of censorship.

Which may all change obviously. Just talking about rn

Just curious if you have any thoughts on this, you mentioned working in marketing. What is the pitch of nostr, the audience? (As nostr is now).

I don't think it is mass appeal (yet?) I think there is a certain amount of realism needed, but I think there is a wide enough and growinf appeal in things like privacy, building, coding etc for the tinkering aspect of it to be an approach 🤔 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just give time a chance. Paraphrasing starwars, the harder you try to get the universe under you control the faster it slips through your fingers

🫡 it was more a response to a few frustrated posts I saw. I think I agree with you. I also think a level of nostr realism is helpful. Or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like this take

This isn't even Nostr's final form.

My personal prediction is that the Other Stuff will take precedence over the Notes. The implications of a decentralized relay system that is basically a sovereign Internet-of-Things are much, M U C H more far-reaching than microblogging, especially when E2E encryption matures here.

There's room for other social platforms since they each have their own strengths. As much as I look askance at its current user base, I actually think that BlueSky has a chance to outlast Xitter. Overall I think Nostriches should be more aware of its current shortcomings like key management and poor search/filtering tools

sure but as you see this is not the final form, I was more talking about the experience of nostr as it is now and onboarding people as it is now:)

but the possibilities are indeed a big part of the allure

Oh, I did stray from your original point lol :P I was agreeing that Nostr isn't a replacement for Insta or Xitter

"Microblogging experiment" and "dev hangout" is an apt description. I'd also tell newcomers that using Nostr entails a DIY approach where they'd get the most out of the protocol by getting their hands dirty

Yeah I was also agreeing with you. But I was annoyed with myself that I missed out 'as it is Now' in the original post lol
