Curious, don't mean to sound rude:

Offline how? Both of the devices in this video are connected to WiFi? Or you're strictly talking about the string of text (token) being sent offline?

Either way, the future looks hella exciting.

Between this, atms, satcards... it's nice to see everyday people building tech for bank replacement even at the edge.

The “offline” was in the description of NFC. Not related to the phone being on wifi.

?.. don’t get it. So, would it still work without any internet access = meaning without wifi and no SIM/eSIM cards in both phones?

The sending of the token would. Any verification serverside no.

Well I'd dare call it layer 2.5

It uses lightning, but I don't think it's really another layer in and of it itself.

Ok. And 2 parties can use it without having any kind of connection to the internet 🛜 ? Basically using mobile phones with broken wifi components and no sim cards?
