Thank you very much for sharing this. Do you have any recommendations for folks trying to establish their own local communities with these ideas? I've started a local sovereignty salon but it's hard to communicate all of my ideas, there's tremendous interest already so I'm very excited and hope to grow the organization in 2026 🥰

What’s a sovereignty salon

I'm trying to explicitly network all of the resources in the community to build local resilience for what I see as incoming financial crisis.

A big draw for people has been the idea of creating a time bank as an engine to run things like repair clinics and to keep our local service economy going even if jobs dry up and inflation soars. Another idea that excited people is creating a barter board, where real local people can post what they need or what they can offer and be able to trust it more than the scammers on the internet. That sort of swap meet could keep the local goods economy going.

Theoretically I'd like to get communication backups like mesh networks or running our own servers but that's outside of my area of expertise for now. But that's why it's a community effort, I don't know everything but there are people who do know what I don't know.

There are many separately run community gardens or food pantries, but if we communicate this garden has tons of potatoes we need folks growing more carrots then we can all have enough veggies for stew. Getting the farmer's at the farmer's market familiar enough with Bitcoin to feel confident about accepting it. These types of things will help us all stay fat and happy even if things fall apart on higher levels.

I think it's a mistake that we focus so much attention on the centralized national level, and now political games mean some local families go hungry. Or we can't process transactions because AWS is down again.

So this is about setting up redundancies, like prepping but at a community level. Two is one and one is none. I used to be big into prepping but realized isolation would be super lame and I want my community to be prepped with me.

I've only had two meetings so far but I've gotten about 35 people onboard already so that exciting. I'm looking into having a booth at the farmer's market this upcoming year.

Great work; look into what nostr:npub1amzlyj9xgeqzvq5nez89aaejpvdj9pskpq8m5gu3sfqhcnylnlcqh7qeuw and the folks at Yellow Barn are doing. Seems like there are a lot of synergies.

Thank you, will do!!

What are the top items on the demand board?

This is still to be built, I've been having meetings about what would be most useful and that barter board gets a lot of attention. It's my intention to get it together so that I can have it set up by the time spring farmer's market starts.

Keep being persistent, keep being honest, keep hosting events for community, keep having good faith conversations.

If you want to get into the weeds, send me a DM.

Thank you, will do 🥰
