What's the status of displaying threads in a meaningful way in the various #nostr clients? Still fucked?

I'm asking because I want to fire out some fire threads, and I don't particularly like long-form notes.

(And I don't want to write a full-blown blog post.)

I'm usually not that high maintenance, I promise.

💅

i’d argue potentially for screenshots of your thread posts, uploading them as images, so we could scroll them on the carousel.

scroll through them*

Ok.

seeing each tweet as a separate image > seeing them all in one.

seems more bite-sized like that and keeps the people more curious about what’s on the next one.

currently it seems like a wall of text (which is one of the biggest drawbacks of the long-form content also)

someone needs to take a leaf out of Telegram's book and free up real estate when the notes of a thread are authored by the same person:

- why repeat the name?

- why repeat the profile pic?

- slide over the text to the left to take the entire width to finally allow:

- moving those 4 icons to the side of posts and not underneath (ESPECIALLY on web versions...)

YES

I tried this before and it's hard to make it clear enough that they are separate posts. Chat bubbles really are great for this.

Just dropping the username and keeping Pfp's works tho.

SwissNode formatting FTW!!!

👀

What client do you use daily?

Damus long-form notes have been pretty good as of late, nostr:npub1r0rs5q2gk0e3dk3nlc7gnu378ec6cnlenqp8a3cjhyzu6f8k5sgs4sq9ac been posting some and they’ve been pretty clean to read

"Damus Web is down because there is someone trying to exploit browser loopholes to steal private keys. I would not recommend using a web client at this time. Damus iOS is not affected. "

hmmm - will give that a miss then!

yeah but Apple...

i’m with you on this. i still post replies under a note as if it’s a thread anyways.

not sure how you usually do threads but imo, a thread on nostr should not be a chain of replies, but replies to the same root, this way it gets easier to display the thread, otherwise it's just a mess of nested content when you always reply to the last note.

bad:

1st

|_ 2nd

|_|_ 3rd

|_|_|_ 4th

good:

1st

|_ 2nd

|_ 3rd

|_ 4th

No, a thread is a chain of replies. Clients need to be smart enough to display them in a flat way, even though the structure is nested. Twitter got that right.

I flatten the thread as you can see here so I account for both:

my layout displays threads either chained or not, but I still think structurally / hierarchically, the information flow should not be nested. just how my brain works...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just read a thread about wanting to write threads.

He need something to do while drinking his coffee ☕️

How meta

my pet hate are those 4 symbols printed under EVERY note in EVERY client, wasting valuable vertical real estate. Why some client can't just put those 4 icons to the side and perhaps even only show them on a mouseover (unless there are non-zero counts) I don't get!

Almost makes me want to make my own client now! lol

Status for https://coracle.social i think it's kind of nice.

Yep

takes a while but works
