can you elaborate on why its not the right answer for most people? is it the technical overhead?

Most people don’t own domains
Some people do.
i bought one mainly for the nip05 tbh and it only cost me about 10$, i bought it through my iphone settings app bc apple have an agreement with cloudflare, the annoying bit was trying to host the actual well-known/nostr.json but i just did it on github for free, i think more people that will use nip05 will be semi-famous so can pay someone to do it if they really struggle but i don’t think it’s that bad
That's right, but is there another option for identification outside of "the known" plattforms?
I think everyone who has to proof his existence has an own domain and on any other case there is no need for that, except the "proof of existence" by signing with my private key.
In other words: public persons who want to be identified as themselfs, won't have a problem with doing that and all others won't need that.
I like the ability to support people like #[6] & #[7] through nostr plebs. It also gets you verified on nostr nests.
And you get a relay, and some cool email features soon to come.
Correct. If people haven't bought their own domain name for their own email address by now, they're never going to buy domain name for a nostr address. However, just like email address providers, we will have and do have nostr address providers. That makes sense to me. I'm not just saying this because I run a service that provides them. It's a way to easily identify someone.
Yes you are. 😆 The cost of a domain is nothing. Stop discouraging people to do that
…But people identify with communities and their community probably has a domain… So NIP-05 can signal community membership.
(You’re above this kind of issue. But it works for “real people”).
