Tokyo is a pretty safe place, generally speaking.
But is there a preferred area close to the conference we should be looking at staying at?

Tokyo’s big, not sure exactly where the conference will be but I’d assume downtown so for lodging I’d recommend on or inside the Yamanote train line (it’s a loop)
