Why?

Messages are not always sent. There arw no errors about it either. Sometimes I see replies to messages that I never received, and have seen screenshots that show the message repied to from others. Sometimes my messages aren't delivered/seen. It is a failure as a communication tool.

Oh... Interesting. I have only used it a couple times... And now that you mention it, the last time I used it the person didn't reply... Which I felt was out of character... But I got busy and never followed up.

Is there a GitHub for this project where you can report issues?

Yeah, with close to 500 open issues. I'll toss it in the mix, since I'm not going through them all to see if it's already reported.

I find it hard to believe that none of the devs have encountered it before. I don't use the app extensively, and have encountered it several times randomly.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing this ✨🙏

Interesting to hear your feedback. I haven't extensively tested it. I'm more curious about 3 things:

1) Why use servers opposed to P2P? What are the pros and cons? Which leads to...

2) Where exactly is the data stored? On these servers? Or my phones memory?

3) Who runs these servers/relays and WHY and what can they access?

Wish I could verify the code myself to all of it.

Kinda the wrong use of word trust without context when in your clarifying comment later your trust issues derive from bugs and issues in the tech, and not issues such as closed source software or that devs were being deceiptful in project development or marketing.

Its also relatively ground breaking new tech being made by open source devs...no need to thrash their project cuz its buggy by calking it a failure. Be helpful, not cynical.

👎

I was replying to someone on SimpleX, then realizing that while waiting for them to reply, I might be waiting forever. I started to send another message to verify the first, then realized that I could not TRUST that they would see that message either. Since that trust no longer exists, I decided to share it with people following me, in case they have attempted to message me there. If a communication tool is broken, then there should be no shame in me pointing it out, especially if other people are relying on it. I think you have mistaken my criticism as cynicism.

The servers serve to relay the info and help in discovery between peers i believe. Seth for Privacy has a good podcast he did with Evgeny, creator, back in Feb i believe.

Data is stored on your device from what i understand ( and the receivers device )

The incredible thing about simplex is that you can run your own server, so between your device and your server being run by you...i cant think of any protocol that provides more control over your actual content you senf, as well as your meta data. Its pretty impressive fro mhat ive learned.

With Start9 OS you can run a server with no technical chops whatsoever

Thanks man! Yes, I've decided Start9 will be my Xmas present to myself haha
