Just cut some comfrey and have it drying out a little bit on top of a trellis in the garden before I put it in the dehydrator. We are going to make some comfrey slave.

Question for others out there that use comfrey - when making salves do you use just the leaves or do you use the stems and flowers as well?

Any tips and tricks would also be great to know - this is our first time making a salve.

Depends on what outcome you want. If i want something gentle I use the leaves. For something with a bit more kick I use the roots.

Either way, I soak them in olive oil for three months, strain and add coconut oil and beeswax with a few drops of grapefruit extract as a preservative ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Thanks - sounds like from what I have seen the stems can just go back into the compost.

All of it can be composted once your done. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For regular salve I use just the leaves. I make one that is coconut oil based and one that is tallow based. Iโ€™ve just started collecting the flowers to make a comfrey flower salve but Iโ€™ve never tried that before

Let me know how the flower salve comes out, i may try this as well.

How do you like using coconut oil vs olive oil

Iโ€™m hoping it turns out purple but we will see. Iโ€™ve never used olive oil to make my own so I canโ€™t compare that

ok thanks - I have purple flowers at the plants at my house - my parents house they have some blue flower comfrey.

With the coconut oil do you start with solid and not add beeswax later or do you use liquid coconut oil?

I start with solid coconut oil and add it to a small crock pot then add the leaves. After I strain it I add beeswax and vitamin e oil

I just cooked mine in coconut oil for awhile. Crushed up the comfrey leaves. After while, just removed from oil and put in fridge.
