Pi nodes are cringe
Discussion
yeah fs i agree (idk wtf this means)
Plebs have been trained to use a little credit card sized computer for their bitcoin node, but the platform is utterly pathetic in terms of $/performance & reliability.
I see lots of unnecessary pain when rpi lightning nodes fail & force closure fees wipe out +25% of the hot stack.
ahhh yes… i kinda understand
why hasn’t the technology for a better node that is easily accessible like pi made yet? is it too complicated and costly?
Start9 can be installed on any hardware. I have an old dell micro tower. You can do the same on an old laptop. Popped the image on a USB clicked install. Done.
Raspberry Pi is a line of cheap ($25 or less) single board ARM computer very popular with hobbyists. There is a $5 model with 32-bit ARM and 256M ram. But I have the PI3 and PI4 64-bit models ranging from 1G to 8G ram. Three in production, one as a UPS monitor and Wifi router (connecting to clearnet through a mesh network), one as a Bitcoin miner, one with 8G ram as an ARM build machine and potential desktop (attach to back of monitor).
One of these days, I'll hook up a $5 Pi with a moisture sensor and a speaker so that house plants say "I'm Thirsty!" out loud. It's all about giving a voice to the voiceless.
😂😂
I just built a nice dedicated machine (non-pi) for $500.
+1
I have a myNode, and I've had to factory reset it at least once. And it can't actually run all the services I would like to use, or the services break at some point.
My next project is going to upgrade to a NUC if I can find one.
Don't get me wrong, I am more happy with it than not. I would not have a node nor would I have learned as much as I have about Bitcoin and using the tools that are out there.
Get a NUC for 50k sats. Or some other better options as well.
