Hold down each icon and it tell you what it actives.. you can create your own "algorithm" with the relays you choose and by shut some off and turning them on
Relays are the backbone of how Nostr works. It is how the notes you post get distributed around the network.
When you post a note, others will only see it if you are writing to a relay they are reading from. Likewise, you will only see what they post if you are reading from a relay they are writing to.
Looks like you are just using the default relays for Amethyst and that's probably fine to start with. Eventually you may want to add a paid relay or two. Just keep your relay list down to about 20 or less.
Each one of those is a server that takes your notes/posts and sends them to everyone else on the relay. Conversely, it also sends everyone's posts to your feed. No, you don't really need to mess with them. You *can* decide to only send or only to receive from them individually.
They don't work as expected, because once events are in your device those filters do not apply. The original idea is, that certain types of events will be pulled/pushed to those relays.
The icons are: events from followers, direct messages, user info, global and search.
I haven't touched this area in my apps. really as long as your feed is updating you shouldn't have to worry.
I am in the "Must touch every button to figure out what it does" phase of using Amethyst. There's a ton packed into this app, and it's not all super obvious what it's for.
Have you done a long press on the heart or zap buttons yet.
Yes!! nostr:npub1ydw9pnr5vnjxcaqa59pxpr8twef079w4n4jz9d220avq2rggt9rq0dcywq told me about that earlier! Any reaction I want! 🤯
Multiple zap amounts, too.
I saw that one when I set up Alby.
That's the sort of useful info which deserves a wee zap, actually had no idea till just now
