Oh ok, cool. Fingers crossed Apple does that someday soon, although I'm not sure what their incentive is to do it quickly as they prefer the blue bubble firewall they've been able to create, particularly in the US.

Would I have to give google access to my messages in order to use Google Messages (and RCS) or can they not see my messages?
