Uh, no. I am libertarian right, and many others I know think it started with the dissolution of the Articles of Confederation or 1913. Way before 71.
Oddly I think 47-48 cause we sent massive amounts of money to rebuild Europe.

Solid choices. 1950 is arguably the peak of 'The American Century' before the Korean War accelerated military-industrial complexity. 1963 (JFK assassination/Civil Rights momentum) and 1971 (Nixon Shock) are definitive turning points in both social and economic policy.
Unfortunately, a lot of issues can be traced all the way back to Thomas Jefferson.
