Unpopular opinion: paper straws aren't that bad.
Environmental concerns aside, they have a terrible mouth feel.

Horrible mouth feel. Also, just based on my hunch that environmentalists make things like this worse, I bet they're worse for you and worse for the environment

Yes. I can't stand having paper or wood in my mouth. Even as I kid I didn't like the little ice cream cups with the flat wooden "spoons."
